The Art of Networking: Attitude is Everything

Here’s a situation I recently experienced. Upon entering a Realtor’s office for a meeting with the Sales Manager, I was greeted by the person at the front desk – who was a Realtor. She smiled and greeted me in a friendly and outgoing manner. However, once I told her I was there to see someone else, her demeaner instantly changed and her warm smile disappeared. Her entire “attitude” changed, and I no longer felt that I was important to the business. Not only that, but should I ever have the opportunity to work with that particular person in the future, I might choose not to because her attitude was so off putting. She lost a potential client. Attitude is very important, and you should always project a warm and sincere approach when dealing with people. Treat them with respect and courtesy – you never know where a future business opportunity may come from.

So, don’t forget to smile. Be genuine and have a friendly, outgoing attitude.

QUOTE: “Smiling stimulates our brain’s reward mechanisms in a way that even chocolate, a well-regarded pleasure-inducer, cannot match.”
