Welcome to Networking Unleashed: Building Profitable Connections, the show where networking goes beyond business cards and handshakes. Here, we explore the relationships that shape our lives, our leadership, and our legacy. I'm your host, Michael Forman. Today, we’re diving into a topic that is often overlooked in conversations about success: the person behind the success.

In a world where social media highlights victories and AI can manufacture polished perfection, it’s easy to believe that everyone else has it figured out. But behind every entrepreneur, creator, and leader lies a journey filled with setbacks, uncertainty, growth, and moments that quietly redefine who they are. My guest today is a young entrepreneur whose podcast became much more than just a platform; it evolved into a classroom for life.

The Journey Behind Success

Through meaningful conversations, personal adversity, and an honest look at mental health, he has discovered that some of the most valuable lessons come not from success but from the people we meet, the challenges we face, and the courage to keep moving forward. This isn’t just a conversation about podcasting. It’s about resilience, authenticity, and the relationships that carry us through the hardest seasons.

If you’ve ever questioned your path, struggled in silence, or wondered how your greatest challenges could become your greatest source of purpose, this episode is for you. I’d like to welcome to the podcast, Brendan Brown.

Brendan, you’ve done so much at such a young age. It’s impressive! Why don’t you give us a brief overview of how you got to where you are today?

Brendan's Story

Brendan: Thank you for having me! My journey starts with my faith. I believe in Christ, and that foundation has guided me through various events in my life. Some of these experiences were traumatic, involving verbal and emotional challenges. However, they made me resilient.

I educated myself through YouTube, self-teaching different skills, which helped me evolve into who I am today. That’s a general overview, but if you want more details, just let me know!

Michael: Sure! You’ve shared your journey very openly. Looking back, how have your greatest struggles changed the way you build relationships with people?

Brendan: My biggest struggles have taught me to be authentic and to share my experiences with others. Recently, I spoke with a brother in Christ who was dealing with some fake people. He mentioned how many people claim to love God but don’t show compassion. I could relate to that.

When we talked, he thanked me for understanding him. It’s all about connecting through shared experiences. I’ve been through a lot that no young man should have to endure, like providing for a parent and growing up without a father figure. Yet, I stayed rooted in my faith, and that’s what connects me with others.

Even those who don’t share my beliefs respect my authenticity. I try to show love and understanding to everyone I meet. For instance, when I was at a restaurant recently, I reminded my grandmother that if we step into someone else's shoes, we can understand how they feel.

Building Authentic Connections

Michael: That’s a great perspective! It’s essential to treat everyone with respect, whether it’s a janitor or a CEO. You never know their story.

Brendan: Exactly! The strongest relationships are built on genuine connections. Podcasting has introduced me to people from all walks of life. One surprising lesson I’ve learned about human connection is how creatively people think.

In the podcasting world, I’ve encountered so many gifted individuals. It’s fascinating to see how creativity flourishes across different fields. I’ve published nearly 200 podcasts, and I’ve connected with people from various countries. Everyone shares a common desire: to see each other succeed.

I approach networking with a servant’s heart, focusing on how I can help others rather than what they can do for me.

The Importance of Mental Health

We often celebrate success publicly but struggle privately. How has being honest about your mental health changed the quality of your relationships?

Brendan: When I released my memoir, it was a turning point. I was recovering from chaos during the pandemic, and I started venting my feelings. Initially, my relatives didn’t understand my perspective, but when my memoir came out, it opened their eyes. They began to see my unique journey and entrepreneurial drive.

Being honest about my struggles has strengthened my relationships. It’s made me more resilient. Even when I face challenges, I focus on taking practical steps and discerning what’s right for me.

Michael: Do you think people are craving authenticity more than expertise today? If so, why?

Brendan: Absolutely! People want real stories. The self-improvement space has become oversaturated with gurus, and many young people have realised that starting a business is hard work. They crave authenticity, especially with the rise of AI.

People want genuine connections and real experiences. When we have conversations like this, it becomes more valuable. Authenticity is crucial in today’s world, where polished perfection often overshadows real emotion.

Networking Beyond Contacts

Michael: Many people see networking as merely collecting contacts. Do you believe it’s actually about creating spaces where people feel safe to be themselves?

Brendan: Yes, it absolutely should be! The pandemic changed the way we network. Before, we collected contacts; now, we create meaningful relationships.

As someone in your 20s, what do you think your generation understands about relationships that older generations sometimes overlook?

Brendan: I believe our generation knows how to come together. We’re the first generation that genuinely looks out for each other. While there are negative influences, we also see young people supporting one another, pursuing their passions, and succeeding together.

The Impact of Hardship

Michael: Adversity reveals who truly stands by you. How has hardship changed your definition of friendship, community, and professional relationships?

Brendan: Hardship has taught me to be strong and discerning. I have zero tolerance for negativity. If someone doesn’t want to see success or growth, I choose not to engage with them.

I once had a friend who caused chaos in our group chat. We were supposed to collaborate on a business idea, but it became clear that he wasn’t committed. I learned that it’s crucial to surround myself with people who share my vision and drive.

Michael: That’s a valuable lesson! If someone is quietly battling anxiety, depression, or self-doubt, what role can community and meaningful relationships play in moving them forward?

Brendan: If someone is struggling, I always encourage them to seek professional help. But if they just need someone to talk to, reaching out to a trusted friend or adult can be incredibly beneficial.

Leaving a Legacy

Michael: Imagine someone listening today feels disconnected or discouraged. What’s one truth about relationships that you hope they never forget?

Brendan: Your legacy matters. Every positive interaction leaves a footprint in someone’s heart. If you can inspire others, they will want to come back for more.

Michael: Brendan, this has been an enlightening conversation. If someone wants to connect with you or learn from you, how can they reach you?

Brendan: You can find me on all social media platforms @Brownstay100. My email is brownstay100@gmail.com. I also have a memoir titled Trials and Tribulations and Trauma: A Story Built Through Adversity, available on Amazon. Additionally, I recently released a children’s book called The Best Yet To Come, which aims to inspire kids.

Conclusion

Today’s conversation reminds us that networking is not about collecting contacts. It’s about finding people who challenge, encourage, and support us. Success is meaningful, but significance comes from the lives we touch along the way.

Here’s my challenge for you this week: Reach out to someone, not because you need something, but because they might. A simple conversation or a genuine check-in could become the encouragement someone remembers for years.
